Asian Golf Nation - August 2011

Facebook Like Button    Google +1 Button

Dear Travel Partners & Golf Travelers,

Thailand GolfWelcome to the August edition of the Asian Golf Travel Nation, the source for news breaking information about Asian Golf. In addition, unique golf playing tips for Indochina's tropical environment, announcements of golf travel promotions, and our latest subscription offer are all integral parts of today's newsletter.

I am pleased to report that our Phuket Amateur event last month attracted 25 golfers. Mark Penfold and Ian Morgan did an excellent job arranging and running the event. Our next Thailand golf tournament is the Chiang Mai Amateur Event in October and we are expecting a full field of 100 golfers as the weather is cooler and the event an even better value-for-money. Thank you to those who have signed-up for your continuing support.

We are still the midst of the low summer season and with that there are great promotions around the region. I have always said there's no better time to get away for some summer golf in Asia than right now during the months of August and September.

On the travel front, I will be travelling to Hawaii to promote Golf In A Kingdom. Can you imagine, even golfers in such a beautiful place like Hawaii are now realizing the benefits and value of golfing in Thailand?

With that, I invite you to read on and hear what's new in golf around the region.

Golf news from around the region:

Thailand
*Sea PineHua Hin: Guess who made the first hole-in-one ever on the 200 yard par-3 13th at the new Royal Thai Army course (Sea Pine)? That's right, yours truly, and I even did it with 3 Army generals as witnesses. Bet that made them do a double-take. Well the course is in fantastic condition, especially the greens which run a fast 9.5 on the stimpmeter and the closing 3 holes which play right along the sea. We have very special rates for the high season and I recommend all golfers play the course as part of any Hua Hin golf package.

All golf lovers are invited join in the fun during the Hua Hin Golf Festival. Promotional offers include US$25-30green fees at all courses throughout the months of August and September. We have packages available for both value-minded golfers and those looking to combine a luxury resort with the great green fees. Just let me know your interest!

Vietnam
*Vietnam GolfHanoi: Singapore-based firm IMG Design has won the contract to create a new golf course in the southern part of the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi. A private Vietnamese developer is behind the project and construction due to start later in the year. IMG was behind other top courses in Hanoi like Tam Dao, so look out for more good things to come.

Laos
*New Kuta Golf CourseLuang Prabang: Good golf in Laos? Luang Prabang Golf Club is a new "foreigner friendly" golf course located in the UNESCO World Heritage town. Check out this great photo and you will see what I mean. Limestone cliffs provide a magnificent setting and at over 7,400 yards from the tips it is a challenge for all golfers. The on-site resort and convenient daily flights from Bangkok might just make for a worthwhile side trip for those in Asia this fall/winter. Let me know if you are interested. I will be going up to play the course myself and will report on the playing conditions.

Best Under $30 USD Golf Course In Thailand

Thailand Golf BlogThailand has many great courses from Alpine Golf Club in Bangkok to Phuket's Blue Canyon Country Club, both in fact where Tiger Woods won major PGA tournaments.

While these golf courses can be played by all golfers in Thailand at green fees half of what similar courses cost in Europe or the USA, they are still nevertheless expensive for some. Most times I sing the praise for all the upper-end championship courses in Thailand, however in these uncertain economic times, I thought it appropriate to share with you my pick for the best Thailand golf course at the other end of the cost spectrum; that is with green fees under $30.00 USD (25 Euros).
