Asian Golf Nation - January 2011

Facebook Like Button

Dear Travel Partners & Golf Travelers,

Thailand CaddiesJanuary marks the beginning of the year and it is one of the most joyous times for all Asian golf travelers. The weather is cooling down (mid-20's centigrade) thus golfing around the region is more pleasant. Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia in particular are the lands of smiles. What better place to welcome in the New Year?

On our side we're all geared up for the busiest time of the year in golf travel and are ready to do whatever it takes to put a smile on you or your golfing clients faces! I hope to see everyone here soon!

Golf news from around the region:

Thailand
*Rancho Charnvee Golf County ClubBangkok: Is Royal Gems City is ready? After normal construction and quality improvement delays Khun Pink, Michael, and their team graciously invited me to the new Royal Gems City golf club just outside Bangkok. I quickly accepted the invite to play the front 9 of the Dream Area and at the same time was re-assured that the full 18 will be ready by the end of January 2011. Stay tuned for my full report and honest assessment in the next Asian Golf Nation!

Khao Yai: Now there are 2 "new" golf courses in Thailand's largest national park region. Rancho Charnvee is a Siam Cement built (at least they have good sand) layout that is attracting allot of interest locally. Panorama Country Club is the re-incarnated Voyage Panorama with Quality Golf International in place as the course managers, it is now the best conditioned Khao Yai golf course. These, along with other recommended Khao Yai layouts like Kirimaya Golf Club (Jack Nicklaus) and Toscana Valley (members club, but still open to select visitors), makes Khao Yai an appealing Thailand golf destination for those looking for something of quality but off the normal tourist path.

Vietnam
*Royal Golf Club Ninh BinhNinh Binh: Only 90 km south of Hanoi is the new Royal Golf Club. Ninh Binh is not a major golf destination for foreigners, but for those looking for a new course, with great views and wonderful clean air in a yet-to-be-discovered location; this might be just what you are looking for.

Cambodia
*Grand Phnom Penh Golf ClubPhnom Penh: Cambodia's capital will get its second international standard golf course. The Phokeethra group has confirmed that they have broken ground on their second course in Cambodia. Once completed this will add to the already excellent Nicklaus designed Grand Phnom Penh Golf Club. The original Phokeethra in Siem Reap hosted the Johnnie Walker Cambodian Open two weeks ago and by many golfers account is currently the best course in Cambodia. So it goes to reason that their latest creation will be of similar high standard. Stay tuned for more progress updates.

For those of you who have pans to golf in Asia this winter, I will see you soon. Others who want to travel here but have not made your plans, it's not too late. South East Asia remains the best value premium golf destination in the world and we can build you a package to suit any budget and preferred style of travel.

6 Tips For Golfing In Thailand When It Is Hot

Thailand Golf Course RulesI played golf in Thailand last week with an Australian golf group. After 15 holes several of the golfers felt so tired that they had to sit down and stop their rounds. That golf incident prompted me to write this post.

Playing in tropical climates such as Thailand creates special situations. You must watch out for dehydration and fatigue and in some more severe cases, heat exhaustion, else risk a poor round, or worse.

RSS Golfing Tips - Get the Best Results from your Hybrid

Get the Best Results from your HybridThis months tip is how to get the best results from your hybrid. The caddies in Thailand will call this club "Mei Khatoey" meaning half wood half iron, or "ladyboy" as they so passionately call it.Hybrid clubs are incredibly useful from the close cut fairways and long grass that the courses in Thailand have, as long as you know how to swing one. You'd be surprised at how many golfers often with no clue of how-or of what the hybrid was designed to do in the first place.
