Dear Golf Travelers,
Welcome to the July 2019 issue of the Asian Golf Nation, the source for news breaking information about golf in Asia. Also, unique golf playing tips for Indochina’s tropical environment, announcements of golf travel promotions, and our latest subscription offer are all integral parts of today’s newsletter.
As an American living in Asia, people often ask me if I miss the USA. For the most part, the answer is no. However, one thing I do miss is American Independence Day or the 4th of July. Great cook-outs, a baseball game, or the annual family trip to the lakehouse just can't be duplicated outside of the USA. To all my fellow Americans a happy 243rd birthday this July 4th. Have a great weekend, on and off the golf course.
This time of the year, most of our tropical golf destinations like Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, and Phnom Penh are well into their rainier months of the year. Rain means a heavy downpour around 3:00 PM each day. While rain and golf are generally incongruent, the afternoon showers only last for only an hour or so. At other times of the day, the skies are sunny and the golf courses inviting for play. Green fees are also at their yearly lowest, which is always a good thing for visiting golfers.
Everyone wants that special golf trip for their holidays. Whether it’s playing a ranked course or one seen on television, making friends with locals, or visiting hidden gems and the hottest nightlife, Golfasian will create for you an authentic 24/7 golf experience available to take your golf trip way past what any online travel agent or booking site can offer.
Moreover, at Golfasian, we believe that not all quality experiences have to be expensive to be authentic. Just the opposite. Some of our most popular packages include some of the least expensive golf and hotels in Asia. Nevertheless, our team understands that matching your interests and budgets to inspirational golfing destinations is what matters most when it comes to creating a trip that works for you and one that will get you on your way to golf holiday perfection.
Finally, thanks to your support, Golfasian remains Asia's top golf tour operator. Your recognition of our exceptional service and excellent value of our tours and tournaments are just a few of the points that set us apart.
Complete full-service itineraries created for your specific travel preferences, expectations, group size, and budgetary requirements are our specialty. Please contact us anytime for a competitive quote.

GOLF NEWS FROM AROUND THE REGION

Phuket, Thailand
Construction of a new 18-hole layout is progressing well at Aquella Golf Resort and Country Club on the site of the former Thai Muang Golf Club, north of Phuket and devastated in the 2015 tsunami.
The layout on gently undulating land focuses on playability and scenery. Many of the holes have views of the Andaman Sea. Construction started last year, and earthworks, drainage, and irrigation work are in progress.
The entire course calls for Platinum Paspalum grassing with a mid-2020 opening target. It's good to see the former Thai Muang come back to life. Aquella is certainly going to raise the standard of golf in this relatively lesser known part of the southern Thailand mainland.

Danang, Vietnam
Shaping and earthworks have started on the second nine of the Nicklaus Course at BRG Da Nang Golf Resort. The first nine of the Nicklaus course opened in early 2018, offering a marked contrast in style to the 18 holes Dunes Course – designed by Greg Norman. The second nine holes are adjacent to the Coco River and lie in the lowest part of the property away from the main clubhouse. Water comes into play on most of the holes, though fairways are generously wide. Concrete wood-simulated timber embankments surround the greens and several teeing areas. Once completed in late-2019 the 7,200-yard course will be a strong test for even the longest hitters. The entire 18-holes are floodlight making BRG Danang the second Da Nang golf course, after Ba Na Hills, to offer night golf.

Yangon, Myanmar
The award-winning and Gary Player designed Pun Hlaing Golf Club has opened its golf resort. Awei Metta Hotel is a 4-star property which overlooks the golf course and has great views of the finishing hole on each nine. The resort is a good option for those preferring to stay on-site and avoid the worst of Myanmar’s capital; the rush-hour traffic. With four courses and the Yangon International Airport nearby, golf in Yangon just became that much easier. The best months to play Pun Hlaing is in the drier and cooler season starting in November. Now is a perfect time to plan.

GOLF DESTINATION REVIEW: Singapore
|
|
|
A personal destination review from Andy Johnson General Manager, Sentosa Golf Club.
I moved over to Singapore 10 years ago from Jupiter, Florida to assist Sentosa with some agronomy inputs and at the same time further my career in golf course design, construction and agronomy consultation management, and to be honest I’ve never looked back. I love everything about Singapore, from the food and the people, to the diversity of business and leisure on offer. It’s such a multi-cultural and vibrant city and to me the location is the centre of Asia’s financial district. In some ways it feels like Asia’s version of New York city.
Plus, I have a very special connection with the island resort in Singapore, called Sentosa. This is where I am proud to have spent the last 10 years, working at a place I love, Sentosa Golf Club, one of Asia’s pre-eminent golfing destinations.
