Facebook Like Button

Dear Travel Partners & Golf Travelers,

Phuket GolfWelcome to the latest issue of the Asian Golf Nation, the source for news breaking information about Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia Golf. In addition, unique golf playing tips for Indochina's tropical environment, announcements of golf travel promotions, and our latest subscription offer are all integral parts of today's newsletter.

The year is already moving fast as the season changes from winter to spring. For many of you, this means its time to dust off the clubs and start practicing. In Asia, the weather is already warm, so what better way to start off your golf year than to hit the links here for some early rounds. Not only have most of the tourists gone home and courses less crowded, it is also time for low season, which means lower prices. Our overseas partners can offer you special discounts with rates as much as 50% off published prices, and this includes both standard and premium courses/resorts throughout the region. Inquire here to find out more details!

Of course there are 'happenings' around the region so with that, I invite you to enjoy this edition of the Asian Golf Nation.

Golf news from around the region:

Thailand
*Dream Area of Royal Gems CityBangkok: After much anticipation, false starts, and expected construction delays Asia's first and only 18 hole golf course copied from the 18 of the world's greatest holes is open for "limited evaluative play"! Known as the Dream Area of Royal Gems City; the front nine comprises replicas of the world's most famous golf holes while the back nine is modeled after Augusta National. At this point I will withhold judgment on my recent play as the course won't officially open until July. However, let me know if you would like to give Royal Gems City a test drive beforehand.

Vietnam
*Montgomerie LinksDanang/Hoi An: Adding to the already 2 best golf courses in Vietnam (Montgomerie Links and Danang Golf Club), will be Bana Hills (not banana hills). The Vietnam Golf Coast's newest course is located 30 miles south of Danang and together with Vinpearl in Nha Trang and Hoa Lac Golf Course in Hanoi is IMG's third in-progress Vietnam golf project.

Banana Hills will open in early 2012 and will feature both housing and non-golfer attractions. The area has long been known to the French who have been holidaying in the area since 1900 due to the year-round moderate temperatures. Course design will be resort style and take advantage of cooling ocean breezes and pleasant playing conditions that Danang/Hoi An area is known for.

With that I would like to thank those of you who have golfed in Asia this winter, it was nice seeing you and I hope your trip was memorable one. Others who want to travel here, but have not made your plans, it's not too late. South East Asia remains the best value premium golf destination in the world and we can tailor-make a golf package to suit any budget and preferred style of travel.

Until the next newsletter, happy golfing!

The course provides for spectacular mountain and ocean views from most all of the holes and is one of the best layouts in the area. In fact Banyan Golf Club won the 2009 Best New Golf Course in Asia as voted for by the readers of Asian Golf Monthly.

Each hole has 6 tee boxes making the course more or less challenging depending on each golfers abilities and tee selection. Golf is often known as a rich man's sport. Apart from the equipment, membership of a golf course is not only a status symbol, but it can also become a very expensive hobby too. However, one of the most competitive areas to golf is in fact South East Asia's Thailand.

According to a recent survey conducted by Asian golf vacation specialists Golfasian, Thailand has some of the most competitive golf rates for visitors across Asia and the Middle East.

The average round of golf was 29% lower in Thailand than a similar number of clubs surveyed across six different countries. The survey compared the midweek high season visitor rates. The most expensive golf course was US$271.00 at the Emirates Club's Majlis course, home to the Dubai Desert Classic. At the other end of the scale, the lowest rate was US$111.00 at Bangkok's Muang Kaew Golf Club, and that rate even included a free massage! [Read the entire Press Release here]

Ladies Golf in Thailand

Thai Ladies GolfWhenever I am traveling overseas and extolling the attractions of golfing in Thailand, sometimes I hear men whining, "Oh, my wife would not let me go on a Thailand golf trip".

In fact, I am seeing a growing trend where couples are favoring a Thailand golf tour over more traditional destinations. Also, Golfasian is hosting more and more dedicated lady golf groups.

RSS Golfing Tips - Groove a Smooth Takeaway For a Smooth Swing

Thailand GolfIf you want to start your swing off smoothly here's something you should incorporate into your swing.

When addressing any shot (even putts), you should just hover the club above the ground. Do not ground the club. A lot of great players do this, including Jack Nicklaus.

The advantages are that you have the entire weight of the club in your hands. And you don't have to pick the club up and then move it away. You will be more relaxed and ready to go when you're starting the swing. Even close your eyes on your practice swing and imagine taking the club away with your shoulders and not your hands.

This will take some time to get used to, but the advantages will be worth any temporary feelings of discomfort. So do this for every shot you play for at least 30 days, and you'll notice your take-aways are smoother -- and you'll be more in control. Plus your swing will be smoother.

And even though this is a short and simple drill don't take it for granted, because if you make this into a habit you will improve your swing and your entire golf game for that.
