March 2018 Edition

Dear Golf Travelers,

Welcome to this issue of the Asian Golf Nation, the source for news breaking information about golf in Asia. Also, unique golf playing tips for Indochina's tropical environment, announcements of golf travel promotions, and our latest subscription offer are all integral parts of today's newsletter.

The year is already moving fast as we already change seasons from winter to spring. For many of you, this means it's time to dust off the clubs and start practicing.  In Asia, it is a time when many of the North Asian golfers who winter here return home. The fairways across Thailand clear out, and the weather in the more northern destinations like Danang and Hanoi turns spectacular.

On our side, it's tournament month as we are hosting two amateur events. The 4th editions of Hua Hin and Pattaya Golf Week open for play March 11-17 and March 18-24, respectively. Currently, more than 50 players from 16 countries signed up for each event. If you are interested in joining either or both of these fantastic golf weeks, then drop me a line. Otherwise, be sure to check out the Centara Masters in June and newly launched Pattaya Singles Week in September. Both will raise the bar on tournament golf for club golfers in Asia.

As usual, there are lots of 'happenings' around the region so with that, I invite you to enjoy this edition of the Asian Golf Nation, learn about what's new in golf travel from around the region.

The golf, culture, and exotic beauty of Asia are perfectly suited for unforgettable golf experiences. Whether it be playing in one of our organized golf tournaments or on a golf holiday, you are guaranteed to play world-class golf, meet friendly locals, experience excellent cuisines, sample exotic cultures, and enjoy fascinating entertainment. Best of all everything on offer is at great prices. Complete full-service itineraries created for your specific travel preferences, expectations, group size, and budgets are our specialty; contact us for a competitive quote.

With that, I invite you to read on and hear what's new from around the region.

GOLF NEWS FROM AROUND THE REGION

Siam Country Club, Old Course

Vietnam Pattaya

Did you manage to watch any of the US LPGA tournament at Siam Country Club last month? Jessica Korda clobbered the competition with a course record score of 25 under. It fits as this was the same course she debuted as a professional golfer in 2011. Then she finished almost dead last with a score of 11 over. That's a 26 shot improvement in 7 years. Her coach (or maybe mom and dad) should receive a medal of honor for helping Jessica achieve such a dramatic scoring improvement. Siam Country Club, Old Course is currently rated the 73rd best golf course in the world and welcomes visitors throughout the year. Why not give the legendary undulated putting surfaces and challenging green complexes at Siam Old a go on your next Pattaya golf trip?

KN Golf Links, Cam Ranh

Vietnam Nha Trang

Golf in Vietnam is already the best in Asia, The Bluffs and Danang GC rate 35th and 94th in the world, respectively. Now, I might be going out on a limb here, but can you believe Vietnam golf is about to get even better? Debuting this year is the KN Golf Links, Cam Ranh. As can be seen in this photo, the links course, built on dunes, overlooks the East Sea. Coincidentally, Greg Norman was behind the design of all three courses, so I guess he knows a thing or two about site selection and links golf. I bet that once open KN Golf Links will be the world's best new golf course, it's that good! By the way, KN is the initials of the Chairman and Chairwoman, Mr. Kiem and Madam Nhung, who own the golf course. That's romantic!

Sentosa Golf Club, Serapong Course

Indonesia Singapore

Sentosa Golf Club is known as the top golf club in Singapore. However, when I was living there back in the 1980s, the site was merely a mangrove swamp and pipe dream. Later it was filled with sand dredged from the straits which separate Singapore from Indonesia. Now after renovations, the Serapong Course is ranked 79th in the world and is best known for its dramatic views of the Singapore skyline and the home of the Singapore Open. Not to be outdone, this month the new Tanjong Course will host the 11th edition of the LPGA's HSBC Women's World Championship. 19 of the top 20 ranked golfers in the world, including all five major winners from last year, will compete. If you are in town, stop by it is sure to be a great week of golf.

GOLF DESTINATION REVIEW: PATTAYA

A two hour drive from Bangkok, Pattaya is a true golfer’s paradise.

There are twenty golf courses golf courses in the Pattaya, Rayong and Chonburi area with an excellent mix of world class courses and some gems I have discovered there over the last few weeks.

Of the courses available, the top and most popular to play are three at the world famous Siam Country Club. Siam Country Club Old Course designed by Ichisuke Izumi recently hosting the Honda LPGA , Siam Country Club Plantation designed by Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley, Siam Country Club Waterside under IMG Golf Course Management and The Jack Nicklaus designed Laem Chabang International Country Club. These four courses you would find hard to beat anywhere in the world. [Read the entire review]

Pattaya Singles Golf Week 2018

PRESS RELEASE

Singles Golf Week – It's New, Fun &
Coming Soon to Pattaya!

Pattaya, Thailand 21 February 2018 -- Thailand's famed holiday playground of Pattaya will host a week of golf, fun and entertainment for singles from 16 to 22 September 2018. Open to all singles, you don't have to be off single figures, you just have to be single!

Australian based Go Golfing started hosting golfing get-togethers for singles more than 10 years ago. Founder, Peter McCarthy, arranged the events as an alternative to online dating or trying your luck in clubs and bars. “For the golf we grouped two guys and girls of a similar age and golfing ability. Better golfers enjoy the challenge of the courses, while beginners liked the novelty of driving golf carts and having a hit and giggle. The post golf dinner and entertainment provided additional opportunities for personalities to shine and to meet more people.”

The events were fun, social and classy and typically the majority of the singles were aged 30 to 55.

Now singles can bring their sense of fun and adventure and passion for golf to Pattaya, just 90 minutes' drive from Bangkok. Pattaya is known worldwide as a holiday destination of amazing beauty, with sandy beaches, water sports, world-class golf, tantalizing Thai cuisine, rooftop bars and exotic nightlife.
