Asian Golf Nation - May 2010

Dear Travel Partners & Golf Travelers,

Vietnamese FoodWelcome to the latest issue of the Asian Golf Nation, the source for news breaking information about golf in Indochina.

Once again it's time for me to let you know what is going on in golf across the region and over the next couple of months.

In addition, unique golf playing tips for Indochina's tropical environment, announcements of golf travel promotions, and our latest subscription offer are all integral parts of today's newsletter.
In Asia, it is a time for low season, which means low prices. Golfers are encouraged to take advantage of special discounts where one can golf at rates as much as 50% less than in previous months, and this includes both standard and premium courses throughout the region. Inquire here to find out more details!

Also, we've quite a few trade fairs and overseas trips coming up around the globe and it would be great if you are visiting, to drop by and say hello and find out what's new. You can click on the link below to send us a mail if you would like to make an appointment.

Of course there are lots of 'happenings' around the region so with that, I invite you to enjoy this edition of the Asian Golf Nation.

Now for the golf news from around the region:

Thailand*
Bangkok ElephantsBangkok:
Thailand's newest course Riverdale Golf Club opens May 1. Built by John Morrow (and Al Tikkenen) the course shares the same pedigree with Red Mountain and Phunaka in Phuket. Jon and Al have been able to achieve a 15 meter elevation change on some of the holes, which in itself is quite a feat for Bangkok's flattish landscape. Other unique course features are extensive use of natural marshlands, many doglegs with narrow landing areas, and heavily undulated greens, all which will make the golfing challenge at Riverdale right up there with Bangkok's other more difficult courses such as Alpine and Bangsai. Green fees will range from 2000 to 3000 baht for weekdays and weekends, respectively.

Vietnam
Danang Golf Country Club*Danang: Introducing the "Vietnam Golf Coast"! Have you been wondering about the golf quality in Vietnam, well wonder no longer? Danang Golf Club is now open, which makes for Vietnam's central coast's second golf course. I had a chance to play both courses this month and honestly the Danang Golf Club together with the Montgomerie Links Vietnam are the 2 best courses in Vietnam, and by a wide margin. Now Vietnam golfers have a chance to play some real links golf and both courses are located just across the street from the beach resorts Danang. Mark my words: The Vietnam Golf Coast (Hoi An – Danang area) will become as popular as Hua Hin in Thailand, if not more so, as the golf quality is that good and along with the beach convenience makes the region a true golfer's paradise. Stay tuned for more to come, but in the meantime if you want to be the first to discover this new destination, check out come of our most popular golf tours or let us tailor make a Vietnam golf package including Danang just for you.

Malaysia
Langkawi Golf *Langkawi: Have you ever heard of this island? Facing Thailand's southern coast, Langkawi came to fame when it was the site for the making of the movie "Anna & The King". (Filming was banned on Thai soil.) Now the island boats 3 beautiful golf courses, some of the best Malaysian beach resorts, and is a great alternative to Phuket or Samui in Thailand, plus it is less expensive during the high season! For an even better golf holiday; why not combine some time in Malaysia's capital, Kula Lumpur, with some beach time on Langkawi. There is golf in both places and the sights are just as unique. Let me know if you might be interested.

With that I would like to thank those of you who have golfed in Asia this spring, it was nice seeing you and I hope your trip was memorable one. Others who want to travel here, but have not made your plans, it's not too late to take advantage of our summer promotions. South East Asia remains the best value premium golf destination in the world and we can build you a golf package to suit any budget and preferred style of travel.

Until the next newsletter, happy golfing!

* Featured Golf Course - Black Mountain Golf Club

Black Mountain Golf ClubBlack Mountain is one of newest golf courses in Hua Hin and was transformed from lush jungle and pineapple plantations. The course is set in a valley, just next to the "Black Mountain's", which are so named because of the large black rocks set into the mountains, providing a nice backdrop to many of the holes.

The golf course looks as natural as possible and maintains many of the original features of the site. The most important of these are the natural creeks that run throughout the course and the rocks that have been used as design features on many of the holes. Many of the original trees have been kept and many new trees have been planted to frame the holes. [Read More]

* Featured Destination - Malaysia

MalaysiaMalaysia is one of the few destinations in South East Asia where golf remains accessible, unlike Japan and China where demand for golf has pushed green fees sky high. You can enjoy a round of golf surrounded by the cool hills or tea plantations or alternatively head down to the fringes of the South China Sea in this country of over 200 courses. Top names like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Greg Norman and Max Wexler have all brought out the best features of the local environment whilst incorporating their own unique styles and features when designing golf courses in Malaysia.

It is not only the surroundings which will enhance your Malaysia golf holiday - the facilities and service which you will encounter across the country is sure to exceed your expectation. Two of the most highly rated courses are the Mines Resort Golf & Country Club and Saujana Golf & Country Club, both of which offer the height of luxury, both on the course and back at the Club House. Malaysia offers the ideal climate for a golfing vacation and combined with the seemingly endless calendar of events, festivals and shopping fairs, will entertain both the golfers and non golfers in your party. RSS Golfing Tips - Lying On Your Side In Thailand

Tee Times In ThailandNo not when you sleep, but when you are off the green. A side hill lie is a delicate shot. Miss it and you can add two or more strokes to your score. You must factor in the effects of the side hill lie. The biggest danger is taking a straight-back backswing into the slope. That's the quickest way to shank the shot.

If the ball is above your feet, the ball will hook. It the ball is below your feet, the ball will slice. Match your swing to the slope.

If the ball is above your feet, take the club back on an inside-out path. That will produce a drawing trajectory. If the ball is below your feet use an outside-in path to the ball. That will produce a fading trajectory. If the ball is in the rough, expect a straight shot. The grass will catch and turn the clubface. That's means you can take a more aggressive line at the pin. Just don't over do it!

Plan your shot accordingly and knock it close to save strokes when golfing in Thailand.
