GOLF NEWS FROM AROUND THE REGION

Bangkok, Thailand
Following a two-year course upgrade, Thana City Golf & Sports Club has re-branded as Thana City Country Club, signifying improving golf and service standard. Upgrades included the rebuilding of some greens, removal of many overhanging trees, and a general improvement in turf conditions throughout the golf course. Next up is an on-site golf resort which when opened later this year will make Thana City an attractive stay-and-play option for golfers with limited time in Bangkok.

Pattaya, Thailand
Thailand’s newest golf course is one step closer to opening. The front nine at Chee Chan Golf Resort is ready for play, while the back nice and clubhouse go through their final touches. I expect the trial play to start within the next three months and full opening by years end.
Pattaya golfers will benefit greatly from having another high-end course to select. I can't wait to give the full 18 a try!

Danang, Vietnam
Please welcome Vinpearl Golf Nam Hoi An to the golf coast of Vietnam. Opening over the next few months this IMG designed course brings the total number courses on Vietnam’s central coat to five, further strengthening the region as Vietnam’s number one golf destination.
Another coastal dune course, Vinpearl promises a solid resort course that rivals its neighbors in quality with a slightly more forgiving design. Look for the first full course reports here.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Following on from the West Course’s inclusion in Golf Digest’s World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses listing, TPC Kuala Lumpur has secured 89th place in the Top 100 Platinum Golf & Country Clubs of the World 2018-2019, up one notch since 2015. Platinum Club recognition is for private clubs around the world, and TPC Kuala Lumpur is certainly deserving of such high recognition. Both West and East TPC courses host PGA major events and are by far the most exclusive golf courses in Kuala Lumpur.

The famous South African created a good balance of golf challenge, while renovations in 2005 brought in modern golf course construction methods, irrigation, and all new turf. The golf course has two conventional loops of nine holes adding up to a championship length of 6,955 yards from the tips and a par 72.

New Events Have Golfers Teeing Off in Thailand
Golfasian and Go Golfing, arguably the two biggest golf tour operators in the Asia Pacific region, today announced they will expand their event portfolio to six annual tournaments in Thailand and Vietnam. These events will attract more than 1,700 golfers for an average stay of 10 nights. Now, that’s big business in the world of golf tourism.
These industry trendsetters are breaking new ground with the launch of a Golf Week exclusively for singles and solo travelers in Pattaya in September. In October, Chiang Mai will host a ‘couples only’ tournament. And, they have parlayed the huge success of their Centara World Masters tournament in Hua Hin to launch another boutique event there in October.

BEST OF OUR BLOGS
To Rent or Not to Rent?
One of the most frequent questions we receive before guests book their Thailand golf holiday with us is “Should I bring my own clubs” or “Are the rentals at the courses any good?”. The answer to this question has a lot to do with you as an individual golfer, but here is what I can share. As far as the quality of rentals goes, the majority of Thai (and other Asian country) courses and resorts that we deal with will have new updated equipment from a top of the line club company.
