September 2018 Edition

Dear Golf Travelers,

Welcome to September and up-to-date edition of the Asian Golf Nation, the source for news breaking information about golf and golf travel in Asia. Also, unique golf playing tips for SE Asia’s tropical environment, announcements of special tours, updates on boutique golf tournaments for amateur golfers, and some interesting golf traveler feedback are all integral to today’s newsletter.

The summer months in Europe and the Americas are over, and it is now back-to-school time for the kids. Leaves on trees will start to change colors, the days will become shorter, and the weather will start to turn cold soon. Now is time for the last golf rounds of the year and time to start making this winter’s golfing plans. There are only four months left in 2018!

In Asia, we are in the midst of the “green season” with heavy afternoon showers being the norm. The good news is that rains usually come late in the day and hardly affect things as golfers are already back at the clubhouse, hotel, or 19th hole relaxing and reflecting on the days match.

Moreover, the golf courses are green and annual maintenance over. Low season prices are in effect and fast under four-hour rounds are common. It’s hard to beat!

Golfasian has been busy updating our tours for the high season and re-inspecting the area golf courses and resorts. Next month will be a big travel period for me. I will be visiting 10 of Vietnam’s newest golf courses, many of which are just in the first opening phases. Then we have the Accor Vietnam World Masters, which is a sell-out for the 4th year. Our newest event goes on the back of the Vietnam Maters. It's a singles event in Pattaya, and we will be playing all of the Siam CC courses as usual. Finally, I will be taking off for central Japan and Tokyo for two weeks at the end of the month on sales calls, agent meetings, and even more golf course inspections. Stay tuned for all of the course updates.

While some say that Asia's incredible golf courses are the main attractions, its really the rich cultural experiences and very friendly locals encountered along the way that often leaves the fondest impressions. Just consider the caddie experience, and you will know what I mean.

Anyway, thanks to you, Golfasian remains Asia's top golf operator providing services centered around authentic golf experiences and great value. Your recognition of our quick responsiveness, impeccable attention to detail and tailor-made personalized service is what sets us apart.

Complete full-service itineraries created for your specific travel preferences, expectations, group size, and budgets are our specialty. Please contact us for a competitive quote.

Until the next newsletter, happy golfing and I hope to see you in Asia very soon!

GOLF NEWS FROM AROUND THE REGION

Khon Kaen, Thailand

To spread tourism out to the lesser know provinces, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has developed some new campaigns to promote the lesser known regions under the campaign motto as ‘Open to the New Shades.’ The largest new area of opportunity for golf tourism is Isaan, in the Northeast. The area already boasts hidden gems like Singha Park in Khon Kean and Victory Park in Nog Kai. Moreover, Northeastern Thailand has a long history, with some of Southeast Asia’s oldest settlements, Khmer ruins from 1000 AD, and even fossilized dinosaurs found here. Nowadays, the region is famous for its excellent and unique cuisine, stunning scenery and historical sites. Most of them are still unseen by tourists. If you want to combine golf & sightseeing and play off the beaten track this winter, an Isaan golf trip might be in the cards.

Singapore

My favorite Singapore golf club has a real and imaginative future. While one course at Tanah Merah makes way for infrastructure projects, what's left will be reconciled into three-hole and six-hole loops on the Garden Course at Tanah Merah Country Club.

Reinventing the golf experience, Robert Trent Jones II has designed multiple playing loops into the routing for the new Garden Course at Tanah Merah Country Club. Construction for the complete renovation project is scheduled to begin in January, with the redeveloped Garden Course to be ready for play in early 2020.

I can't wait to play the reconfigured layout as I’ve been an advocate for 15-hole courses for a long time.

Danang, Vietnam

Designed by IMG, Vinpearl Nam Hoi An is now fully open for play. Located less than one hour from the airport in Danang, this new layout is a great addition to golf in Central Vietnam and makes the 5th quality golf course in the region. The course is similar to the other area layouts as it plays through scrubby pine and dunes areas. Overall, Vinpearl a solid resort experience and a good choice for those looking to add more variety to golf in Danang and the awarded central Vietnam coastal area.

GOLF DESTINATION REVIEW: Nha Trang

A personal destination review from Simon Mees General Manager at KN Golf Links.

Most golf enthusiast are probably aware of the surge golf in Vietnam has seen over the last few years, with no sign of this mini explosion slowing down in the near future. Numerous new projects are either close to fruition or in the early development stages and will surely help to strengthen Vietnam’s standing, as an emerging must visit golfing destination.

As a golf professional and club manager it is great to be part of this expansion, having recently relocated from the Middle East to Nha Trang and the eagerly anticipated KN Golf Links – Cam Ranh, a short drive from the hustle and bustle of Nha Trang City.

The region boasts three international 18-hole golf courses rank, with one among the best in Vietnam if not all Asia. KN Cam Ranh Golf Links is a Greg Norman-designed links course that plays through dunes and along the South China Sea. Vinpearl Golf Club is a spectacular design located on a private island. Diamond Bay Golf & Resort is a strategic layout and challenges even the best professional golfers.

With the addition of KNGL, the golf destination of Nha Trang will surely become an even more popular destination for the traveling golfer with three differing and unique courses to choose from.

KN Cam Ranh Golf Links is a Greg Norman designed signature course. It’s one of only a handful of true links courses in Asia and is part of an 800-hectare mega-project including eight kilometers of prime oceanfront land along the East Sea which is dominated by spectacular white sand-dunes and long gently curving coastline. The course is 5-minutes from the Cam Ranh International Airport and 20 minutes from the resort city of Nha Trang.
